October Fly of the Month: Rosenbauer’s Rabbit Foot Emerger

NOTE: At monthly chapter meetings we feature a "Fly of the Month" and everyone is encouraged to participate.  

Tie and bring to the meeting two or more of the "Fly of the Month" and you will receive a raffle ticket for each fly.  Those who have not tied a fly for the raffle can purchase tickets for a dollar apiece.  The winning ticket gets half of all the flies.  The other flies are retained by the chapter.

October Fly of the Month: Rosenbauer’s Rabbit Foot Emerger

Last month we featured a Blue Winged Olive nymph and since that mayfly continues to be the major hatch of the season, this month we feature an emerger.   This is Tom's favorite for the simple fact that it has been his most productive.  And it is easy to tie.  You can change the body and head color to match other may flies.  The link at the bottom takes you to Tom's discussion about this fly and includes video on how to tie it. 

Hook:       Caddis in sizes 14 to 20
Thread:     Olive
Shuck:     Tan Antron or Z-Lon    
Body:        Olive rabbit fur (or similar dubbing)     
Wing:        Snow Shoe Hare's foot preferably from the toe area.  It should extend 180 degrees around the top half of the hook for stability.
Head:        Olive rabbit fur (or similar dubbing).  Tom often uses natural hare's ear fur for the head instead of bothering to match the color of the dun.
