Background:

Hello all,

My name is Sarah Baker, I was approached about getting involved with the TU Women’s diversity initiative for our club. At first I wondered if I was the right fit for this challenge. I talked it over with a few friends and decided why not there is plenty of local resources available to make this happen.

The idea changed after I attended another woman's retreat. The members in attendance spent two days getting to know each other whether it be new friends or old acquaintances. These two day’s made this idea change into something more. A day of instruction, education, and life casting friends to be made.

So enough about how, but rather why? Over the last decade there have been many great women in this sport from Joan Wulff, Mary Dette, Elsie Darby, Agnes Van Put, and April Vokey to name a few from our region. These Women are the leading pioneers in a mostly male dominated sport. When we look to the future of our great sport the next up and coming women are right around the corner. From the stream to the vise women have slowly been taking charge. Some examples are Rachel Finn, the lead guide at The Hungry Trout lodge. Anita Coulton from Cross Current Guide Services of the Upper Delaware River. Brit Davenport behind the vise at Hackles & Herl, Lindsay Agness the VP of Diversity Initiative, NY State Council of Trout Unlimited. The never ending growth of women in this sport whether it be on the stream or behind the vise is making 50/50 on and off the water more real than ever!

So I invite you to sign up for is chapters first ever "Women on the Water" event.

Location: Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum, 1031 Old Route 17, Livingston Manor, NY 12758
