March Fly of the Month: The Blue Winged Olive

Hi everyone, Rory Lisefski here…hope all is well. For this fly of the month I decided to go with a perennial favorite.

This is a fly that can be fished almost any time of year. And with warmer weather approaching it may be the first dry fly we get to cast this season.

I’m talking about the blue winged olive. Most of our streams have good populations so this is a useful fly to keep around.

So, tie up your favorite BWO dry pattern and bring them to the meeting!

You can go as simple as a little extra fine dubbing and hackle, or maybe tie up a cripple on klinkhammer. Whatever you decide. Looking forward to seeing what you got!

At monthly chapter meetings we feature a "Fly of the Month" and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Tie and bring to the meeting two or more of the "Fly of the Month" and you will receive a raffle ticket for each fly.  Those who have not tied a fly for the raffle can purchase tickets for a dollar apiece.  The winning ticket gets half of all the flies.  The other flies are retained by the chapter.
