President’s Message
Dear Guests and Members,
When I look at my Instagram feed, or Twitter, or Facebook and I see various fishing celebrities, always smartly outfitted with impossibly expensive gear, telling me to ‘rep my water,’ and ‘keep ‘em wet,’ in far-flung beautiful places, the images fill me with a mix of mild envy and slight despair. Undoubtedly, I should not envy these celebrities. They are our allies in conservation and we earthbound fisherman are indebted to them for making our sport look so cool. Undoubtedly, those celebrities are doing a lot of good. They deserve our respect.
However, we need not imitate them because we are not them. We are TU. We are local people with a million responsibilities and commitments on the land all around the the streams we try to protect. I can’t have the #Instagram fishing life because of the choices I made to have my current life, choices that I’m proud of, that I wouldn’t change. And that is ok. TU makes it ok by giving me a way to help with like-minded individuals who are becoming my friends.
I would like to communicate just what a privilege it is to serve as president of Mid Hudson Trout Unlimited. These are true conservation-minded men and women. They accomplish great things and seek no fame or personal recognition. This dinner came about because of their hard work and I sincerely hope they take a moment to look enjoy themselves as they look on this year's’ accomplishments.
